I was curious about Song of Solomon. As my daughters entered their teen years curiosity gave way to a strong desire to understand it and to be able to pass that on to my daughters. My decision was to read it through at least once a day for a month and write down observations. I stopped counting after the 50th time. At first it seemed disjointed, but then it started to take shape. At this point the so called experts were useful. I could compare them to each other and see who was on track in a specific section.
