You need some time together to work through the problems and solutions.

If he or she is very smooth at explaining away their actions — watch out. They may have too much experience and glossing over their actions. What they say may sound good, but if something sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t true.
Be very careful of an abusive relationship. They do something warmful to you, then say how sorry they are and that it will never happen again, and then the same thing happens over and over and over. But they are so sincere when they apologize –NO THEY JUST SOUND SINCERE, AND THEY HAVE HAD PLENTY OF PRACTICE.
