Friends — deal with it

May 16, 2012 By dschenk Leave a Comment

In Chapter 6 verse 13 the girl and the guy are back together and starting to walk off together.  Her friends say this Return, return O Shulamith, return, return that we may gaze on you.

Solomon had said in front of them that her strength and beauty aroused him.  He is ready to walk away and be alone with her.  The friends are asking her to stay.  She came to them and wanted to talk when he was gone, but now that he is back she want to leave them and go off with him.  Friends can be jealous of a relationship that you have.  Sometimes you are the friend.  Notice what kinds of feelings you have when a friend that you have been spending time with enters a relationship with a guy.  You miss what you had, and even if the guy actually is great, you will feel antagonistic toward him at times.  And to make it worse, she will come to you when things aren’t going right in her relationship and she will want you to listen to her and offer advise.  Then she is off again to be with him.

The friends in the Song aren’t really trying to be mean, it just comes out that way at times.  The important part to learn is that you can be in either situation — the one in a relationship who needs friends and has to learn how to treat them right, or the friend of someone in a relationship who needs your support and advise.

Relationships between a guy and a girl take time and change other relationships that they have.  But this doesn’t have to mean that they totally mistreat their friends.  It does mean that they have to find a new balance in their friendships.

If life and relationships were easy, everyone would be good at it.

Why I Am Doing This

I have information that is valuable for people who are making decisions about sex, love, romance, marriage and relationships. Admittedly, sharing on these topics is not something I have been eager to do. But it is the right thing to do, so here I go jumping in with both feet. More about us.
