Chapter Six
verses 1-3
Where has your lover gone, most beautiful of women? Which way did your lover turn, that we many look for him with you?
My lover has gone down to his garden, to the beds of spices, to browse in the gardens and to gather lilies. I am my lover’s and my lover is mine; he browses among the lilies.
I didn’t find much on this section so I’ll share my thoughts.
First, the ‘friends’ didn’t stop after she answered their first question. They taunt her with the phrase most beautiful of women and then ask not so innocently where could he have gone. They think that she turned him down and he went off to find enjoyment somewhere else.
Second, she things that she is his and he is hers, but she also thinks he went to his queens and concubines. Are we together or have I lost him?
When you have a big fight that question rises to the surface. Did I push it too far? Did I lose them?
And girls if they think their guy is cheating on them, seem to have a name in mind — of who he would do it with. She is hopeful and she is afraid.
When a relationship is important is really matters when you have a big fight. If you are just in a casual relationship, then it is like the song from the 70’s said If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with. Follow that advice and you won’t have any relationship for long.
