Song of Solomon Chapter 8 verses 6-7
Make me a seal upon your heart,
a seal upon your arm,
because love is strong as death, fervent love as relentless as the grave,
its flashes are flashes of fire, the flame of the Lord. Many water cannot extinguish love,
and river will not drown it.
If a man offered all the possessions of his house for love, they would utterly scorn him.
She is trying to describe how strong love is. The jealousy that comes with it is strong also.
- you can’t play with it
- you can’t play with someone else’s feelings
- you can’t easily control it
When you awaken love, when you get it started it it like a forest fire. Don’t count on being able to control it. When I was in junior high, my Dad had me take the Christmas tree out in the back yard after we undecorated it. Several month later, he had me cut off a couple of branches so that he could show me that we had to be careful with the tree so that it wouldn’t catch on fire. I put the branches in the fireplace and crumbled up some newspaper and put it under the branches. Then he had me light the newspaper. At first not much happened. The branches started to burn a little and to smoke. I wasn’t impressed. Then, they literally burst into flames. We could feel the heat. The flames were coming out through the screen and reaching up toward the mantle. The branches were popping and sparks were flying everywhere. We put out a few that made it through the screen. Later when it died down, we went out and hoses down the roof to make sure that none of the sparks that flew out the chimney were able to catch the roof on fire.
I got the message about the Christmas tree.
Hope you get the message about awakening love.
