7:10-13 – With a Twist
Scripture Text: Song of Solomon 7:10-13
She uses his description to build on, and she isn’t talking about a quick kiss on the cheek. It certainly sounds like tongues are involved.
They have made up. She says she belongs to him. She can’t state that for him, but she can say that his desire is for her.
This sounds like they are ready for ‘make-up’ sex. She has enticed him, and knows that he is eager. But she has a better plan. She initiates this idea of going to the countryside.
At first this is a strange sounding request. He is the one interested in growing plants and raising animals. She was the one reluctantly working the family vineyards. I think she is trying to show that she can take an interest in what he is interested in.
She says they should see if the vines have budded, if the blossoms have opened, if the pomegranates are in bloom. She has him thinking about his work and he is probably trying to figure out how they got switched from sex to his work. He was probably working the night they had a fight. Remember back when he had dew in his hair. He had been outside for most of the time for the dew to make his head drip. So sometime between the time he left that evening until now, she had to have realized that he was out working. And that working was his way of trying to make their lives better.
So he is probably just getting focused on thinking about work when she changes subjects again with this statement “there I will give you my love”. Now she has come back to the thoughts of sex that they had been talking about previously.
Mandrakes were used as a natural way to enhance sexual pleasure and stamina. I don’t have any experience with this and I don’t know if there is some scientific reason for the mandrakes to help in this area. But he certainly knew what she was saying. The delicacies that she is talking about could be fruit and food. They also are describing what her intentions are for him. I will try to be a little polite and paraphrase a saying that we have. She is saying: I am going to have sexual relations with you until your brains fall out of your head.
The next passage is Song of Solomon 8:1-2.
