They had a fight
She realized that it was a problem
She asked her friends for help.
They were not good help.
More on that next time.
He stumbled around not sure of what he was going to do.
He realized there was a problem
He eventually went looking for her
He praised her, and then explained where he had been.
Try to follow this: “I went down to the grove of nut trees to look at the new growth in the valley, to see if the vines had budded or the pomegranates were in bloom. Before I realized it my desire put me among the royal chariot of my people.”
Several of the experts that study the Hebrew text and then translate it into English say that this is one of the hardest passages to translate. The meaning is obscure.
After I read that in several different books I realized exactly what it was. He was trying to explain where he had gone and what he had done since he left her door.
Many wives have heard explanations as bad as this one, because many husbands have left mad and frustrated with no real destination and have wandered around. This isn’t always the case. Sometimes the guys go off to drink, or to be with that women who wants to get him away from his wife, or pays a women to be with him.
At any rate, when he came back and found her, he praised her, then quoted what the other women said about her — a real good sign that he wasn’t having sex with any of them, and then he gave this weird sounding explanation of where he had been.
The next thing that is written is the friends calling to her to come back. It is obvious that she has accepted what he said and that they are ready to be alone together.
Then you can read about the whole make up process. They are trying to think of each others interests as well as their own. On this occasion they end up having lots of sex.
Lessons that can be learned:
you aren’t going to be perfect.
they aren’t going to be perfect.
But working through the problem can make you both stronger,
and the making up part can be real cool.
