Upon my bed in the nights GLK
Not many variations for this section. She is seeking him in her bed. Not just one night, but for many nights. Why isn’t she finding him there? Because he isn’t there.
She gets up in the morning and goes to look for him. Notice she asks the watchman. They are like policeman. They walked around the city at night, making sure there weren’t any problems. They hardly paid any attention to her. Compare this to the treatment she gets later in Song of Solomon. The difference, this is in the morning. A girl walking around during the morning was no big deal. The next time she does it at night. A girl walking around in that city alone at night was out of place, and probably a prostitute. She receive a much different reaction that time.
Why didn’t she find him in her bed? Because he was only there in her dreams.
