The Play — After fishing for a compliment — the back up plan

March 14, 2012 By dschenk Leave a Comment

Last time she was fishing for a compliment from him.  That didn’t produce any results, so she tries something else.  Turning back to address him, she offers to meet him at the midday break, but she says it in a way that makes it easy for him to invite her or encourage her to come.

7  Tell me,  you whom my soul loves

where you graze your flock where you rest them at noon:

for why should I be like a veiled woman by the flocks of your close friends

GP

He replies in a flirting type of answer.  He is fairly confident that she has been watching him and knows where he is going.  But he isn’t going to assume too much so he gives directions – in doing this he is inviting her to join him.

 Solomon (the guy)

1.8  If you do not know, O fairest among women,

go forth on the trail of the flock and graze your flock of female kids

by the dwellings of the shepherds.

GP

He also uses this phrase “O fairest among women”.  I don’t know that he thought this one through.  By saying this, he was saying that she is special, and that the rest of the girls are not.  This stings a little when the girls are all thinking that this guy might be worth checking out.  The girls will throw this phrase back at her later in the story.

Why I Am Doing This

I have information that is valuable for people who are making decisions about sex, love, romance, marriage and relationships. Admittedly, sharing on these topics is not something I have been eager to do. But it is the right thing to do, so here I go jumping in with both feet. More about us.
