There was a song in the early ’70s that went something like this
try to see it my way, only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong
try to see it your way, and then something about how bad it would be.
As I listened to the song when I was older, it became clear what his attitude was:
try it my way, that will be right, try it your way that will be wrong, then We can work it out — yeah if working it out means that they both agree to do things his way.
This plays out in churches when someone says it is more blessed to give than receive. Hold on to your money. I heard people say this when they think you should give and they should receive. Haven’t heard anyone say, it it more blessed to give than receive and then give me something.
People that think this way can make it sound good up front. Let’s discuss this and everyone can put in their ideas and we will come up with the best one. Funny how it is always their idea that they want to end up with as the best one.
Give this type of person the chance to be right all the time — because they are by themselves and no longer with you.
