8:3-4 – When the time is right, go for it
Scripture Text: Song of Solomon 8:3-4
verses 3-4
Verse three is a repeat of a verse that is in chapter 2, verse 6. Again this verse could be her describing what they are doing, or what she wishes they were doing. She isn’t talking directly to him in these verses. This is what she is thinking or what she is saying to the audience. I think this shows that in both places she is expressing what she is wishing for, not what they are actually doing. That myth about girls not liking sex is blown out here.
Check this next verse. There is a verse similar to this that is used twice previously. Both of these times there is an oath before it that isn’t included here. Also a couple of the words in the original Hebrew language are different this time. While the first two times are identical, this third time has differences in some of the words. I believe that Dr Craig Glickman has the answer to this one. For a technical explanation go to the So Called Experts section.
For a simple explanation try this: When it is time to arouse and awaken love – DO IT!!!
When you trust the other person, you can attain a higher level of release. If that trust turns out to be misplaced it is harder to really release yourself and enjoy the whole experience. When you realize over and over and over that you can trust them, you can release your love at a higher level.
You can do this too early and it will feel good. But then when you realize you can’t really trust the other person, you start blocking or guarding yourself so that you won’t get burned or used. Then what felt good at the time becomes a bad memory and inhibits you even if you later have what could be a great relationship with someone.
I think she is saying there was a time to hold back, to wait. There is also a time to go for it, to release your heart, mind, body and soul and become one with him. And this is the time for that.
The next passage is Song of Solomon 8:5-7.
